Lovely gift

Extra gift day of the year, almost 3 pm around here. Great weather, mild, bright, sunny. What I did so far and and am planning to do yet:
- had a good night’s rest, thank you :-)
- get things and shopping done downtown
- walk the dogs with a friend who looks by occasionally
- get new bifocal glasses – important at my age!
- cook lunch for everyone: rabbit & polenta :-) & glass of beer
- take a power nap
- do some translation work
- do some gardening
- go to the atelier to get some drawing done
- meet at the restaurant with friends for pizza

So – hopefully – it will be a really lovely day.

Same to you, folks.

BIKI

Februar ganz besonders darauf.

I try it in english:

Why does the sunflower core know that it should grow up once to a sunflower and not become a tomato? It is about such thoughts today with the springlike BIKI. BIKI is called BIBLE BOX and means a child service on Wednesday for children between 3 to 10 years. Up to 40 children comes from our two churches (reformed and Catholic), but also from free churches or from parental homes in which the parents never go or seldom to a church. Thus we can sow in child hearts and I am glad in this springlike, warm Swiss 29th of February particularly about it.

Predictions for the 29th century

My name is Clara and I am 10 years old. I am french but live in Switzerland . I go to school in the international school of Luzern.I think that in the 29th century (or in around 800 years) there will be:Flying cars, New/strange food, People might have discovered a new planet, New techniques will be used, There might be new languages, New places will have been discovered, There might be new animals because of cross breeding, There might be new materials and fabrics, Technology will probably be very advanced and last but not least there will of course be new inventions. But this these are only predictions and if they are true then there will surly be tens and hundreds of other things.

Animals don’t fell well because of us, humans, who just use the trees and drives cars and all of those things. It is bad and it gonna destroy the world a day, not to mean, but it is right! That was why I chose to make that list and I think in 1,000 years more than 5 of these animals don’t eksist if we don’t try to do something right now! Remember start with yourself and then your family, finaly other people.

Gifted writer

First of all I was finishing my motivation letter. I want to be employed. Then I made all the copies and wrote the adress on the envelope. Then I get showerd and washed my hair before I went to the ballet-hour. But my teacher wasn’t there. She has written a paper and matched it on the door: I’m ill. That was the first time in nearly ten years, that she doesn’t work. Normally she gives lessons, even when she feels not good or while in pain.

So I went strictly to the post with my letter. It was a sunny day. At 7:45 I made a picture of the blue and red sky and posted it on facebook. I saw a formation of birds coming back from the south. Just beautiful! My facebook friends liked and commented it.

I went to the store to buy food and orange juice for the family. Then I came home and spent some time on facebook and my sister called me before she went to the cortège of Basel. I told her that these year I don’t come to watch and I felt a bit sad. Last year I was there with my daughter, she was 13 years then. Now she had to work for the school.

Then I startet cooking. I made something I never did before. Little cheese cakes, some of them I filled with muchroom and legume. My little daughter came home from school and we startet eating and we liked it!

Then came her father and my older daughter and we were sitting all together and talking. After eating, the adults had coffee and the whole familiy was eating a famous swiss chocolate with honey and reading the newspaper and the music channel on tv didn’t work anymore, because they had a technical changing day. My little daughter (12) was mad because of that. She loves music, especially Michael Jackson.

In the afternoon, I met a friend and we had a little walk. Then I went to the library. They had reserved a new book for me. I took one for my daughter too.

As I came back, I found that a woman wants to be friend with me on facebook. I accepted, she seemed familiar to me. Then I asked her and she answered and wrote these words: you are a gifted writer. We had been pregnand at the same time with our first kids! And I startet writing with her and now we know that our younger children will go at the same school in summer, maybe in the same class, that whoud be nice, but it’s nearly impossible because of many, many students.

But one never knows! Such a fantastic day. She told me, that she allways reads my posting in the internet. It’s so beautiful to be connected even if we don’t know, who reads us all ;)

Did you know that the great composer Rossini was a leap year baby? Me neither, but thanks to the Google Doodle today, I learned something new :-)

Passing the test!

I just found out my daughter passed the entrance exam to gymnasium and I am thrilled! We say kids need to learn for a lifetime and not collect knowledge for a test. But there are still hoops and hurdles in the form of tests to get through in order to reach your goals. And this really is significant news to celebrate and spread around the world! I am so proud of my daughter!!!

Grüezi from Winterthur

I woke up too early today with my head feeling like it would explode. Lots of ‘gunk’ from my cold all built up in my sinuses. Lovely!
I’ve now taken my children to school and am about to make a cup of tea. This afternoon I have 3 1/2 hours of German lessons. I’m doing an intensive course which is very tiring. Normally I’m the language teacher not the learner, but my family moved to Switzerland in October and I need to learn German if I want to a)talk to people b)buy things c)get a job! It’s very interesting seeing the classroom from the other side! I’m usually a very diligent student but I feel asleep yesterday in class…
Until I go to my class (in about 4 hours time) I’m going to answer some emails from people who asked for my advice on iPad apps, try and find some new German apps to help with my learning, write some lesson plans to go with resources I’m helping to develop, and also finish my German homework. I must also go for a walk in the sunshine as it is a beautiful day. I would normally go for a run but my chest hurts and it’s not sensible to run when your cold is on your chest.
Hope you all have a lovely LeapDay – or whatever today is called!
Bis bald Lisibo xx

Guet Nacht us dr Schwyz!

Eigentlech hätti scho lang is Bett söue … Aber de hani hie avo läse … Und de isch es nach de Öufi gsi, de hani dänkt: Chasch grad ufblybe und en erschte Text grad nach Mitternacht schrybe! De cha emu de niemer säge, d Bärnerinne sige langsam!

– In case you didn’t understand one word:
This is one of many swiss dialects and my mother tongue.

What it says:
My usual bed time would have been much earlier … but then I started reading this blog. And suddenly, it was past eleven, so I thought: You could stay up and post a first text right after midnight. Then, nobody can tease you about Bernese people being slow.

You see, we have this rivalry between the so called cantos (they’re like districts) – and the people from Berne, where I come from originally, are said to be very, very slow. To which we usually reply: We could be quicker – but we want the Zürcher (i.e the people from Zurich) to be able to catch up with us. Which makes me think that maybe, Leap Year Days are actually a Swiss Invention, like watches. It’s the Bernese who have introduced this extra day for the others to catch up! clever. eh?

Or, as the Bernese they:

Äbe!
