February 29th 2012? My first Leap Year since discovering the world of blogging. Arriving in school this morning, knowing that I had a madly busy day ahead, I spent half an hour looking at the blogs that had been posted lasted night by the amazing staff and children at Ecton Brook Primary School. Reading what everyone has been up to always starts my day with a smile and immense pride in our school and the wonderful people in it. Having seen a few children, a few staff members and a few parents, my 9.00 ‘one hour’ meeting started and finished at 11! Two hours exceedingly well spent catching up with the wonderful work going on in our Children’s Centre and Pre-School, and planning for the summer term ahead. A brief time to catch up on emails brought some interesting information from the lawyers helping us to go through the Academy conversion process, and left me with another 4 hours work to do – it’ll have to wait until tomorrow. A cup of coffee, some children showing me their work, a phone call or two and a Skype onto our second site took me up to lunchtime, when a meeting with my Chair of Governors (bringing chocolate!) and briefing for the afternoon’s interview took place. The interview of a prospective NQT for September brought great potential and reminded me of the privilege of headship – watching superb teachers bringing out the potential in their children and changing lives for the better. A staff meeting until 5.00 followed by a meeting with my potential Academy Trust colleagues till 7.00 took me into the evening’s relaxation – a visit to the Derngate Theatre in Northampton to see the stupendous Stomp perform their dance/music routines. Wow. Talented individuals who obviously had amazing teachers who tapped into their potential and taught them ‘can do’ attitude. Home for 10.30, a glass of wine, another catch up on blogs, a posting on this amazing blog while we are still in Fed 29th, then a hot bath and bed. A typical day in the life of a Head Teacher!
