My edumazing day

On 29/02/12 in Melbourne Australia
I look back and see,
The many things I did today
That represents my life and me.
It began quite early in the morn
In our new house nearly complete,
Going through building requirements & workmanship
With tradesmen we had to meet.
Off I then went to the next scheduled task
A presentation I had to prepare,
To inspire those that seek work in our city
With many ideas I could share.
That allow them to see their value
And realise they can find success,
To develop self-belief and persistence
Find their passion and their best.
This is what I do with young people
I have the pleasure of working with,
Not to mention their teachers and families
To find the gems they hide underneath.
To help them improve their lives and learning
And all they do and can be,
To enjoy learning in many ways
Then eventually they begin to see.
The star they are in all they do
Their potential they finally reach,
The pleasure they find in learning
And for teachers in how they teach.
21st century learning
Is such a must in the work I do,
From using computers, iPads and more
There is so much to learn that is new.
I use these tools with all learners
To motivate them to learn and grow,
Creating new opportunities to learn so well
And deepen what they know.
Then back to our learning studios.
With a team I absolutely adore.
We share the same values and passion,
I cannot ask for more.
As my time continued on
Learning Coaching was next for the day,
I created more unique ways for my students to learn
Including tools that record what they say.
One student I coached reminds me
Of the passion I have to do more,
To seek ways to help learners that need it most
A foundation will do this for sure.
One that supports these learners,
Their families, their teachers & schools,
A holistic approach they need so much
With 21st century tools.
After working with my edumazing students
My commitment to my community progressed,
Meeting my fellow Rotarians
At new apartments that are called Quest.
Then off to dinner to share fellowship
And to hear great stories and say,
We make a difference in all we do
For so many every day.
Then back home to my beautiful family
The loved ones I like to please,
Finding a moment to speak to my daughter on Skype
Learning and living overseas.
My son once again is out and about.
My hubby relaxing at home.
To share the new stories we both have today
And glad he’s no longer alone.
I am grateful for the people around me
And for the great things we share and see.
Today is like every other day.
Thank you for reading my story.

29th almost over here

The extra day is almost gone here. It is 10.30pm on the east coast of OZ. (which is sometimes called Australia and is just near Middle Earth or New Zealand)
I imagine some are only part way through their day elsewhere and some just about to start .
A whole extra day before some of you .
I wish I thought of it like that a bit earlier today. It went pretty fast here. I am predicting similar speeds over your side. Have as much extra fun as you can .

A Great Time of Year.

It seems appropriate that I blog today about my program called LEEP – short for Lodgers’ Elearning Extension Program- on LEAP day. It is for Gifted and Talented students at Berwick Lodge Primary School, who need little bit of extension in the classroom.
Today has been the first day for Grade 3s in the program. The students were using our new MacBook Pros and for the first time used ComicLife. We couldn’t believe how easy it was to add photographs and taking balloons to explain what it means to be in LEEP (Lodgers’ Elearning Extension Program).
The Grade 6 students had another live radio show on The Berwick Lodge Student Hour, taking control of their own learning by creating the show with scripts, playlists and riffs as well as managing the technology by working at the control panels.
It’s a great time of year – new programs, excited students and beautiful weather as the summer turns to autumn.
So I hope everyone has a great LEAP day!

Anything Goes Day

On Anything Goes Day ( 29 th February) I spent the day climbing mountains and free falling! Not literally ….. I am a teacher and feel that describes my day! By climbing mountains I mean trying to make things happen, to get the students to move along with their understanding of their world and what will help them succeed in it. By free falling I mean coping with things that are out of my control and sometimes deflating and debilitating.
Today we were free falling because the education electronic mailing site was “down”! How much we rely on it to communicate, share, inquire and inform! At one point during the day I had to try to communicate by ringing on a land line… no one answered! It’s much easier and time efficient to email and then the respondent can answer in their own time.
I often think if the internet went down ( I know – don’t even think about it!!!) I wouldn’t know how to pay my bills, communicate with family and friends around the globe, research recipes and teaching ideas, get directions, find a replacement for “googling”, do my shopping, find bargains, research movies or books and the list goes on!
Who says people over 50 can’t adapt to change?!?!

Happy to be back home

I have just come home to Perth after two weeks working away. I am sitting on my balcony looking at the river and the cars speeding down the freeway.
I have just been working in Alice Springs which is a town in the middle of Australia. It was very hot and dry there. I enjoyed a day trip to Uluru – it is the best rock I have ever seen!
I saw loads of lizards but no snakes (fortunately).

Room 1 Awsome Post!

We are actually from New Zealand

Today in the morning we went to different classes for Mathematics after that we did some R.E (Religious Education) we were doing a very important sheet about what our parents do for us and what Jesus meant when he said God is Abba. After our first recess for the day we did a long and hard spelling test we did some English and then we had our last recess for the day. then we decided to just read our books but if we hadn’t finished our Knowledge Net we had to right the Reflection From our Newspaper Report. Then we did some more R.E and packed up for the day.

Continuous Challenges

So, the never-come summer’s gone. Literally, Sydneysiders didn’t have summer this year, even the once-every-four-year last day of February is raining. Today is also full of challenges – new challenges, and continuous challenges. I don’t like it, but I like it, at least it means you still got something to do in your life.

Music, love & peace

Currently new to blogging but why not leave a mark on the internet…
Currently undertaking a teaching degree as my current unit is about ICT so leads me to this post.
20 year old girl living in one of the best cities Melbourne :) well just outside actually on the beach :)
MUSIC- can determine a mood, bring back a memory, give us all something we can relate to, inspire us. A world without music is an empty place without the background noise :)
LOVE- my nieces (true love) family, friends, lovers . But at the end of the day it’s what we all want, it’s also impossible to live without.
PEACE- we all need one peaceful place where in that moment, doing that one thing we are completely at peace. If everyone could find their own piece of peace we would have less war.

On the run

Today was one of the busiest days I’ve had at school all year! Maybe it’s a good job we only get Feb 29 every four years :-)

I’ve had almost non-stop meetings all day. However, our poor year 6/7′s have so been looking forward to their annual 2 dat aquatics program and the weather here in Adelaide has been horrendous. It has poured with rain all day (so they didn’t need to go in the sea to get wet) and it has been very cold and windy. They all had to come back early so only got to do two of their activities instead of three. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better!

Mum’s Day

Today was like any other day, I woke up in anticipation for a great day ahead, weighed myself and was pleasantly surprised that I had lost another 0.4 kg even though I had been on the Dukan diet for close to 2 months already …. I sure had a lot of fat to lose! I was a little worried that my body composition monitor said that I had lost some muscle mass as well …. I need to go and buy those 6 kg dumbbells for my Chalean Extreme workouts … 5 kg ones are getting too easy for me. At least that shows progress!

Got dressed for work, hey, my skirt’s a little loose. Was it loose when I bought it? No time for ruminating …. my son’s shouting, ‘Mum, are you coming down?’ Got to go make his lunch for school. We’ve been bickering about who should make his sandwich (he’s already 10!) We’ll see who wins this morning.

Rainy day, long jam towards his school. Just made it before the bell rang. Now to get to work on time!

Made it with 5 minutes to spare. Today the kids learnt about leap years. Great worksheet with a combination of literacy and numeracy. They had to answer some pretty tricky questions from the passage about leap years. I learnt that a year is actually 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes and 16 seconds, and that the extra odd minutes are accounted for when century years not divisible by 400 (eg. the years 1700 and 1900 are non leap years, or common years). Well, you always learn new things on the job! That’s what I like about working in education.

Fetched son home …. ‘Mum, have you downloaded the latest Star Wars – The Clone Wars?’

Okay, out comes my MacBook. Thank goodness for the fast download speed we have nowadays. 3 episodes in half an hour …. that will keep him busy for a while!

Now to do my University homework. We’re going to use Google Sites next week to build a website. Must as well explore it beforehand. Hey, it’s a lot like the Ultranet … has all the important features … and more, a lot like iWeb too. Slideshow, html embedding, calendars, templates, interactive forms, announcements, gadgets, presentations etc. This is going to be fun! Oops, time to cook dinner …. too late to exercise … sigh! Time flies by too quickly!

So many things

Busy marking, planning and organising activities for my science and IT classes today. Experiments to cover and details to be discussed with year level leaders. I had to cover somebodies senior class for accounting, call some parents to discuss their their child’s progress and host a lunchtime meeting of the Junior Science Club. At various odd moments of the day, I caught up with my email and twitter feeds with my PLN. A quick bite to eat on yard duty then a drive to the city for a meeting of IT teachers at the ICTEV where we will be planning some exciting professional development and conference activities. We also tried out some innovative ideas for online meetings using Elluminate and Google Hangouts. All of what happens in the busy life of an Australian school teacher.

two bags of sick

They turned a corner and then one bag of sick started crying.
The other bag of sick said:” what’s wrong?”And the first bag of sick said:”I was brought up round here.

A new day

Nearly 8 a.m. on March 1 here in eastern Australia. Heavy rains have been falling overnight with 50mm (2″) falling by 7 a.m. There’s talk of flooding in many areas, including around my area. A local school has closed for the day because the rural children have to travel along sometimes very slipper when wet roads.

As I look out of the window where I’m sitting, it is wet and windy. Our weather chart shows a massive band of cloud over a large area of eastern Australia so more rain will come. It makes me wonder if the sports field across the road will flood for the fourth time in two years. This is the pattern when the La Nina pattern hits the South Pacific. When EL Nino takes hold, we risk drought. Until this last two years’ La Nina, drought was a major problem now dams are overflowing, rivers are rising and the country waits the next El Nino.

One of my favourite Australian poems comes to mind when I see the extremes. Here is a four line extract of “My Country” by Dorothea MacKellar…

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.

If you are interested in seeing the full text of the poem, here is a link…

http://www.lancescoular.com/my-country-by-dorothea-mackellar.html

In two years time, the poem will be 100 years old. It is an iconic description of Australia.

my day

Today i had a cuddle in bed with my two wonderful children aged 5 and 3. Normally my 5 year old would have school but as she is just starting prep she gets Wednesday’s off. After a cuddle and a chat we got up and had breakfast, did a jigsaw puzzle and got in the car for a drive to get a couple of birthday presents for her friends parties on the weekend. After spending way too much money we returned home, watched some TV then off to dancing we went. Whilst my 3 year old and i were waiting for my 5 year old to finish her dance lessons, i noticed a huge lump inside my 3 year old’s ear, so off to the doctor we went. Finally after waiting for what seemed an eternity, back home cuddling in bed with my beautiful kids again whilst they fall asleep. All up a pretty good day!

A very wintery 29th of February

Today started out very cold and rainy and it marked the end of summer for those of us who live “Down Under” plus it meant that we were in a leap year cycle! The students were all excited because they had a swimming lesson at 10am and the rain hadn’t stopped. We talked about being brave enough to ignore the cold and to get into the ‘swimming’ groove!
Most students had a great time being in the pool while it rained but a couple brought along their books to read.
Back in the class, we talked about this blog and the students were very interested, as they are learning how to be confident users of the internet. We haven’t started class blogs yet but I can see great potential in using this means of communication.
This post has been an excellent idea and the students were fascinated by the 29th of February and the concept of a leap year. Most of my students were 4 last leap year and now, at 8, they can understand the whole extra day business.
We will look at class blogs during the year.

Our Day

Awesome day for Year 2/3 C here in Aus. We are working on our persuasive writing skills and we learnt how to make a movie, add music to it and save it all in ICT today. We have had so much rain here in Australian recently that we can’t always go outside and play! Luckily we haven’t had floods like some parts of Australia. Hope every one has a great day.

Today at School

Today in the Library Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) have been talking and thinking about genre, and how it is useful to know what genre you enjoy when deciding on a type of book to read.

Other years (Year 2,3,4,5 & 6) have been working on what our school rules would look like in the Library. “Be friendly, care for others, and keep calm” are some ideas that students came up with.

Kindergarten listened to the story “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle and made beautiful flowers to decorate the Library.

That’s all so far today – but it is only lunchtime :-)

Rain + Cat on a comfy cushion = Ability to get Some Work Done!l

Here, in rainy Adelaide, I’ve spent the day snuggled up in my office with Prezi.com. Having successfully persuaded my cat to stop adding his contributions (by walking all over the keyboard), I’m putting together a presentation on why and how teachers need to be using ICT in their HASS lessons.

Blogging will be one of those important tools I shall, of course advocate!
I hope the rain stops soon… I’m meant to be at a Leap Year BBQ Later! It doesn’t look too good for that out there at the moment. Great weather for ducks though I suppose!

Leap in for some more fun

We’ve done lots of things today. We went on the computers and went swimming. We had literacy groups and did handwriting, spelling, writing and reading. In Maths we were rolling dice to find which number was the easiest to get and which was the hardest. We haven’t solved that problem yet. We were also thinking about the question of how animals can stay underwater for so long and if mermaids are real. Now we are blogging. We are a class of girls in Sydney. We had a busy day but it was fun.

iPads

We have 52 children in a team teaching environment who are all exploring new iPads. Some have iPad2′s and some have the ‘old’ ones! We are loving sorting out all the housekeeping! So much learning can be done with an iPad as out pencil.

Long Day

6am, rise and shine. Ground-hog day perhaps? Not so.
I actually enjoy my Wednesdays. Wednesdays are the day I get to escape from the general routine and compound of my little home and head off to work. Wednesday is the day I get to help other children, other than my own.
At work I enjoy learning about grade nine science subjects – This week the students are looking at electricity. This brings me back to my time in the classroom as a science student. I throughly enjoyed science.
English lessons for the remainder of the day. Topic- Super heros and Super villians. It is enjoyable assisting the students with their characters and formulating some (often funny) personas.
All in all a good day, other than a small ‘hitch’. One of my learning support students was accused of stealing money from our staffroom. This saddened me, as I do trust this boy. I didn’t ever think he was capable of stealing. As it turns out, he is quite capable of more than I thought. My collegues were saddened as it was our ‘beer money’ for friday afternoon drinks with the staff that he had stolen. Yes, I do enjoy friday afternoon drinks, but I’m more dissapointed with the fact that I can no longer trust this young boy.

At last, home by 3.30pm and off to pick up my little boy. He has had a wonderful day in the care of some wonderful people. His teacher tells me that he has spent the day examining his private anatomy amongst his little friends. I laugh and make a mental note to add this to the growing list of 21st birthday stories I have conveniently accumulated thus far. I love the innocence of a 2 & 1/2 year old. Certainly a vast difference between him and my high school students.
Home, dinner and bed. I watch my little man sleeping and reflect about my day.
I hope he retains his innocence for some time to come. It really is so precious.

1 bar of iPhone service

Today I flew to the Tiwi Islands off the coast of the Northern Territory of Australia to work in their remote schools where English is sometimes a third language and where pencils have never been picked up by a child before age 6. It is remote, dusty, hot, island life and the indigenous kids are awe inspiring. We’re going fishing and turtle hunting Friday. School operates beyond the classroom walls and literacy is built though shared experience and real life. Often for these kids, books have never been read to them and school is the only place where literate behaviors are modeled and celebrated. The indigenous women with little English took me to their arts centre today. A little tin shed filled with women at work on dot paintings. Although speaking, reading and writing in english was foreign to some of them, culture and oral storytelling were important aspects of island life. Kids learning through meaning and in context? We can all champion that!
I’m down on the beach writing this finding one remote spot where my iPhone picked up 1 bar of service!

Life

It’s about getting up and getting out there for me every day! Responsibilities, expectations and then a butterfly lands on on the rose out side the front door. That’s what it is about this life I have. Taking notice of the simple things in the chaos that blurs around me.
Today was no different and tomorrow will be the same……. Different. No day like it is the day before, and exactly the way I like it. Learning, exchanging ideas with my peers, my mentors and rushing to my other life. Shopping, washing, cooking dinner and jumping from conversation to conversation with my husband about our day.
Exhausted at the end of the day now and resting with my husband……Life, it’s about engaging, getting involved and taking it ALL in. Tomorrow? What will it bring? Who knows?

Baby steps

This is my first blog ever! and from what I can gather there is quite an art to it.
Today I was at work, (i’m a tram driver) nice and early which means I finish nice and early, so i picked up my daughter from school and we went shopping for dinner, tended to a friends pets while they are away and then cooked dinner. She tried a new food tonight, Haloumi cheese pan fried, unfortunately not going on the foods she likes but at least she had a try.
I’m currently doing my 1st week of a Uni subject about ICT and am learning all manner of things like Google+. I now have an account which is also a task for the unit. Have found it to be somewhat like fb but better as you can do so much more with it.

Anyway thats my first blog, hope its well recieved

Cheers, Adam

Just one more day

February 29th
A day at home while the car is getting that little bump fixed.
My morning walk – no dolphins in the river today.
The day before rubbish collection so time filling the bin with prunings.
Must make a start on marking essays but all those posts on Google+ are far more interesting.
Answer a few emails.
Mark essays…
Have lunch.
Mark more essays.
Nanny nap
Shower.
More emails.
Call from my mother – she found her neighbour dead in her bed.
Email from mother offering to pay for a joy flight over Perth if I go with her.
Deal done.
Distracted by this blog
More emails.
Will I get back to marking or watch a movie later ?
We will have to see…

The ways we connect

Today was a day like any other…I slept in, mad rush to get ready for work, arrive at work just in time to a day full of more demands and expectations than I can hope to achieve. I’m so glad for this opportunity to reflect and mark the day. I am a teacher and my role is as an eLearning Coach working with teachers and students to use technology in meaningful and powerful ways in the classroom. I love my job!

Lots of people say that society is less social these days as people spend more and more time in front of screens. I have to disagree. Today I had experienced so many ways to communicate and connect with the people I know…..I met with people f2f and we planned and talked and learnt, I emailed my colleagues with a great web site I had found that I know will help them in their work, I sent a text to my sister to see how she is and she replied in kind, I tweeted this blogging site to spread the word and I skyped a friend. I chatted with kids in the playground and I laughed with a friend over coffee. I rang a colleague on my mobile to get some advice and I answered a request for help on Google Plus and tonight I will share my day with my husband. I am so glad that today was a day like any other and I have so many ways to connect with the people I care about.
Happy Blogging day – Feb 29th, 2012

Just another day?

What am I doing today? – at the moment – I am getting lost on Twitter (and checking my e-mail and stuff). Spent most of the day at work as usual (getting stuff out for/cleaning up the mess after high school science classes) then came home, had tea … and should go and do what I was/am planning to do for most of the rest of the evening – moving furniture/junk from where it didn’t really work as my sewing room, back to where I had it a few years ago and should work better if I arrange things better this time … sigh … oh – and I need to fit walking the dog into my evening somewhere too (in fact it will probably be “walking the dog in the rain” and then have a shower and put my wet clothing, and the rest of the pile in the laundry, into the washing machine … pity washing and other housework doesn’t do itself).

A bit of everything in the WA Wheatbelt

Today on the farm, we have taken delivery of some lime and fertilizer. In the office I have responded to posts in an online forum as an OUA tutor. On the community front, I have distributed a newsletter and collated uniform orders. For the family I have sent two children to school, kept one sick child home and picked up the youngest from Kindy. On a personal level, I have placed 5 passport applications at the local PO only to discover 4 of them need to be amended! Might even hang out some washing and cook dinner :) Phew! And it’s a horribly windy day…

Honouring the gentlemen in my life

I was just staring at the lime green wall behind my laptop wondering what to write and I saw the photograph of my partner and I standing under a tree. He has his arms around me protectively and is snuggling into my ear. This reminded me of how much I am loved in my family home. I am a doctoral candidate studying relationships between spiritual health and well-being and Home Economics. My long-term goal is to challenge negative public perceptions about Home Economics. I believe my chosen field is an exceptional discipline that teaches me the importance of knowing who I am, appreciating my family and participating actively in my world. We live by our house rules of honour, trust, respect, integrity and courage.
I am in my study alcove in the corner of my bedroom. My partner is working behind me at his workstation filled with postcards of our world travels and photos of our kids and grand-daughter. I live with my partner, my son and my father. Ron, my partner, is an Actor and is an extraordinarily gifted and talented man. Hartley, my son, is ten years old and one of the most generous and loving people I know. My father, Brian, is an Artist and another brilliant man, who has just finished painting two amazingly beautiful (and enormous) landscapes. I am very proud of my gentlemen – they inspire me every day. I have a very privileged life. I turn 40 this year and I am grateful for the 29th of February because I get to stay 39 for an extra day. My Home Economics education has given me a powerful and unique perspective of my family life. I appreciate the importance and value of my role as mother and I know the gentlemen in my life appreciate me. This 29thFeb project has also reminded me that I am an important part of something much bigger… humanity.

eLearning Leader

Today I am working to bring change to the education system. I am testing a 4G phone to see how we can utilise personal data connections in a school environment. I am fleshing out a BYOD model for increasing the ratio of students to devices in class. I am eating sprout bread with grated carrot and beetroot. I will dine with the neighbours this evening and then have a stroll on the beach with my wife and daughter. :)

Feb 29 in Paradise

Today is a busy day. I have just got back from preparing fresh pizza bases for our business “CJ’s Island Pizza”. Had some brekky which consisted of a boiled egg on toast and probably be looking for a coffee very soon. My wife Michele has just left to pick up our friends Di and Eric Hartman at the jetty. By the way, we live on North Stradbroke Island. We will be talking about renovations to our house and our 2013 tour of Europe. Di and Eric will leave us today to continue their return home in Sawtell, New South Wales.
Michele and I will probably have a bit of a break before doing some work on our business and also our preparations for our business holiday in Thailand. We fly out this Saturday 3rd March 2012. We will be visiting Phi Phi Island and Phuket. We are travelling with our friends Tina and Geoff Monroe for 2 weeks.
Solomon our son will be managing CJ’s Island Pizza in our absence.
The weather today is beautiful. Nice and sunny and probably a good reason to head to the beach or the lake. for a swim if we have time. No should really make time.
We open the shop at 4pm until 8pm. We don’t do much after work but sleep ready for another day in paradise.

The Challenge of Technology in Education

Today I’m helping teachers in a K-6 primary school use technology more effectively. Change in education, much of it driven by technology, continues at an accelerating pace. It’s a challenge for all of us to keep pace – there’s always something new to learn – but it’s an exciting place to be.

At School…

Hi everyone!
My name is Lucy and I’m at school today. My favourite days of the week are Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday because we do a lot of Writing, and I actually don’t know why I like Wednesday. I do Speech and Drama on Wednesdays too. In Australia, February 29 is on a Wednesday. I’m quite excited about doing Drama on a day that only comes every four years! I’ll be 15 next time I have a leap year, and my 6 year old brother will be 10. As for me, all I want today to be is a good day at school (I probably will, because I have Lasagna for lunch) and after that, some quality time with my family. I hope all of the other people in the world are finding the time to have time with someone special to them, just as I hope I will tonight. Happy February 29th!
Lollies, Love and Leopards,
Lucy

Just another ordinary day

Today is an ordinary – it’s a sunny Brisbane summer though I’m happy it’s not too hot. Today I will take my sons to school as they slept through their alarms and have missed their bus. Then I’ll come back home to my office, do some invoicing and hopefully write a few blog posts for my blog. I’ve written two posts this week (for Tuesday & today) for my blog that has laid dormant for nearly three months. Later in the day, I’ll be thinking about dinner and waiting for everyone to come home from school. After that, I start preparing for tomorrow. Just another ordinary day …

8+ hours after my first post to Feb29th.net

February 29 is the first full day in around five months I haven’t any work to do on DVDs and CDs I make for schools and community groups. It’s a time to catch up on some writing.

After a very brief post just after midnight my time, the first post to Feb29th.net I think, I thought I would add the two stories I had mentioned before I start my normal routine of commenting on school/class/child blogs for the day. They were completed just before my midnight post.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Story 1 was written for the UK based “100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups”

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Wk#32 – Prompt: …Take a leap of faith… – 100 words – “Against All Odds”
———————————————————————————-

Born premature, so small, every breath was a struggle. Walking took longer, cerebral palsy the doctors had explained.

As she grew, school was sometimes made hard by staring eyes blind to what was inside. In sport, she always tried but never won other than the hearts of many.

As an adult, she turned to writing. Success followed success.

Interviewer, “You were never afraid to take a leap of faith?”

Faith replied, “With my name, how could I not? I always knew those I loved would be there to help me if I fell.”

Her autobiography, “Faith, a Leap of Me.”

Story 2 was written for the US based “Saturday Centus”

Saturday Centus Wk 95 – Prompt: “The chair dominated the small room.” in 106 words – “Gangy”
———————————————————————————-

The family had gathered, grandfather in a large chair. The chair dominated the small room.

Once strong, grandfather was frail, worn by years of toil and care. He saw his youngest grandson, just three.

“Come to your grandad,” he smiled with his hands held out.

The child approached, eyes bright for one he loved, not able to say granddad, “Gangy.”

Grandad sat his grandson on his lap, “How’s my big man?”

“Good, Gangy” he replied.

Grandad slipped a sweet to the boy, “Don’t tell mummy.”

“Hanks,” replied the grandson with a smile.

Gangy now long gone, the memory remains, the child grown to tell the tale.

One of my daily joys comes from writing, whether it is one of my unpublished short stories and novels, entries for one of the above or comments for students ranging from 4 to 18. I haven’t attempted to quantify the average number of words I write in a day but the emphasis is always on being supportive and positive in what is written.

To sum up the philosophy of my time on line, I go back to one of the shortest entries to Saturday Centus where we were required to write our autobiography in just 6 words…

Seeking ways to make a difference.

100 Word Stories

It’s midnight, 11 hours ahead of London. I’ve been commenting on blogs around the world and working on challenge entries for the “100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups” (UK based) and “Saturday Centus” (US based). The challenges provide participants with a prompt and require the entrant to use the prompt within a words limit.
