Teaching!

Right now, I am at my Student Teaching position at an alternative school in western Michigan. I have been prepping for a writing unit I will be starting next week called “This I Believe!” Right now, my students are listening to music rather loudly, and one of them was making dinosaur noises in the back that were actually pretty impressive. The class is Yearbook, so they have pages they’ve been assigned to work on all trimester. Today has been a pretty laid-back day, like the rest of the week, because we are finishing up a unit project in class. We were supposed to have an ice storm today, and I was hoping for a Snow Day, but no such luck. No school in the middle of the week would be sooo nice. I’m looking forward to the weekend already!

In twenty-nine years I will be…

In twenty-nine years I will be forty-six years old, and hopefully I will be as happy as a clam; I hopefully will have achieved a life that I am proud of. I hope that I will have a job in retail; I’ll still have my little old micra, as well as enough money to keep me happy.
My life will be all about living happily, just because I probably won’t have a fancy car, or a degree, doesn’t mean that I won’t have a good life. Chances are my life will consist of a full-time job, that I’ll have the odd moan about, from which I can come home to my own house, that I share with my husband, somewhere in Newcastle.
To get to this life, I am not stressing out about universities or worrying about what I’m going to do, I am focusing on the present day, and what I can do right now that will make me happy. Sixth-form work is probably the last thing that I think about; my main thoughts are about whether my wage from my career in the fast-food industry will provide me with any petrol at all, and what slightly exciting thing I can do on the weekend, even though typically it will most likely involve a McDonalds and copious amounts of cheap cider in Bishop Auckland.

In 29 years I will be…

In 29 years I will be 47 years old, I hope to have achieved the qualifications I need to get into a job within the law industry preferably to be in the CSI, head of policing or a lawyer however if I do not achieve this or decide this isn’t what I want to be doing I would like to be part of the cabin crew for emirates and eventually go on to live in Dubai. Whichever one I chose to do I hope to be financially stable, have good health and settled down by late 20’s and living either in London, Australia, Dubai or America. My life will be enjoyable, fun and easy going but to put in the hard work where necessary. To get where I want to be I am currently at sixth form doing my A-Levels then I am going onto university where I have applied for law, criminology and psychology courses if I decide against university or I go and decide this isn’t what I want to be doing I have started looking into being part of the cabin crew for emirates where I would start in England then eventually when I am old enough to cope by myself and ready to move so far away I would move to Dubai and continue flying for them unless other opportunities arise what I would like to do.

All the world’s a stage…

I was a bit miffed to find that I didn’t get a day off work on 29 February and that it was, in fact, much like any other Wednesday. So I will be spending most of my day in the office (I bought myself a brownie so that today felt that bit more special…it worked!)

After work, I’m going to meet my friend and we’re going to a group we’re a part of to read a play. The play’s about the first ever female actresses in seventeenth-century Britain, and it looks very interesting – although there is quite a bit of bad language!

If I did have an extra day where I could do anything I wanted, I’d go to Disneyland; I’ve never been and I quite fancy meeting Mickey Mouse in person.

Obesity in America

i am currently a high school student at York Suburban High School. I participate in many physical activities to keep my body physically fit. As i walk down the streets of many cities I visit. I always see a bunch of over-weight people. It is more than less unfortunately. I wish i could do something about it because i care a lot about peoples health. I think there needs to be more restrictions on what people eat, and what Americans can buy to eat. Because the problem of obesity is dramatically growing, and if the United States government does not do something about it now, it is going to get worse. Unfortunately people have already grown into their habits, and it is going to be hard for them to get rid of them. There should be some kind of award if you lose so much weight if you are classified as obis. Most Americans only will do something if they can get an award, so why not? Why not help someone lose weight, instead of spending government money on something that is not needed?

America watches too much TV

Television has become a staple of everyday society in the sense that people actually have TV in their schedules. Now this is not necessarily a bad thing. Watching the six o’ clock news is valuable, however when the news is over and yo continue to watch Jersey Shore, Teen Mom and three more hours of bad television one cannot say that that isn’t a problem. Watching too much TV is not the main complaint, although true, its more that the popular shows are mindlessly created, no creativity is ever present, and most claim to be reality. Now the last is most likely the reason for their popularity but how mindless can a person be. I mean to sit there and watch 47 min of jersey turn-piking or teen moms get pregnant for the third time is just ridiculous. TV used to take a creative mind to create, and an even more creative mind to keep from getting cancelled but now its just fake reality. Did anyone ever think they would waste 10 hours a week watching some, obviously fake, TV show just because it claims to be real. People have come to depend upon entertainment for too long. The next time you sit down to watch any of these bad shows, instead go take your dog for a walk, or take a nap, or do anything except watch stupid tv.

Technology in use today.

In 2012, all of the teenagers and young adults use Apple iPhones and Blackberry phones. Adults and Businesses use computers, namely Apple Macs and Windows 7 computers. Myself I have a samsung mobile phone with a keyboard, and a Windows XP computer with a Sony Playstation 3. We use MP3 players, such as Sony Walkmans and iPods. Our televisions are LCD and Plasma, and we are just moving into 3D televisions. People are beginning to use and buy iPads, downloading millions of ‘Apps’ available to use. Upgrades and improvements are constantly being made to products, even cars.

Kangaroos and the state of the world.

Kangaroos. Simple herbivores or ego-maniacal beasts? It’s up to you to decide after my blog. Hopefully I’ll be able to get you to see the light.
In recent years Kangaroos have been growing in number, taking our jobs and depleting vegetation world wide. “These beasts are simply growing out of control,” says Julia Gillard – the Prime Minister of Australia, “They’ve already outgrown our (their) own continent and are moving worldwide.” It’s true, these former animals have grown out of their native lands and reside in Europe, the Americas and parts of Africa. Because of their growing population and seeming intelligence to move to new places of living the UN and various humanitarian groups have toyed with the idea of giving them the same rights as humans. In late 2009 it actually was decided that Kangaroos have all the same rights as humans. They can work a job, own property, not be subject to life in containment and most importantly have the right to live. The last clause, The right to live, is questionable to say the least in regards to the Roos. Not even a year earlier than the decision was made, Kangaroos were thought of as pests by the Australian people and we were most often then not shot on sight. Now i venture to fight this and say that Kangaroos are most certainly not humans, nor should they have human rights. They simply are not on the same level of being as we are. The only reason why the hold jobs in the first place is because they’ll work for feed pellets and straw. STRAW! I work my tail (no pun intended) off for at least 50-60 hours each week for a wage that I deserve. I can go out and find straw and food pellets if i really tried hard. I need this money to live a half decent life, to provide for my family and myself. kangaroos on the other hand do not have to work for a decent life. They already live without the restraints of clothing and other bare necessities, they even have the natural instincts to be able to forage in the wild for their food. Unfortunately we as humans simply are not that self sufficient as we had left those animal instincts behind long ago. On top of being undeserving of OUR jobs, they can’t work to the same capacity that we do. They can’t operate computers, they can’t drive vehicles, they can’t even do math that’s tangible. Alas, they find a way to squirm around these disabilities and earn a place for themselves in simple business like grocery stores and all the way up to congress in the united states! This is simply ridiculous and irresponsible on the part of the US government, but I digress. Kangaroos are not only invading government and the work place but they also pose a serious threat to those around them. Kangaroos on average peak at about 7ft tall and can tip the scales at around 350lbs. Not only are they massive beasts, but they readily fight anything they deem as a threat; Us and even themselves. These creatures are like primitive boxers using their fists and their feet to beat the living heck out of whoever they decide needs their day to be that much worse. Do you really need a hopping marsupial of kung-fu hopping down the way just give you a swift kick to the kisser? I didn’t think so. Please contact your local government and discuss your displeasure with the Roo culture. Get them out of our jobs, out of our neighborhoods and back into the land down under. To get the ball rolling as it were, please follow the link I will provide at the bottom and sign the petition to have their rights removed and their bodies deported. Thank you all for reading and have a quality, Roo-free day.

Rhyming with my blog

There once was an lazy old frog,
Who sat up the creek on a log,
Until one day he decided to blog,
In the wind and the rain and the smog,
About his New Years resolution to jog,
He ran everyday in the fog,
Until Mr. Frog though he was ‘top dog’

Remembering Feb 29th 2012

As I look at the watch just going past 22:30, I decide that this is the perfect time to think about Feb 29th 2012. I struggle to remember what I was doing the last time it was Feb 29th. I do however remember, the first time the significance of a leap year was highlighted to me. It seems odd, but it was all the way back in 1996. I remember going to Arrowe Park Primary School in Merseyside and being perplexed by the big fuss the teacher was making about Feb 29th! Gosh, 1996, not really a lifetime ago…but certainly feels like a lifetime ago. Things were so much simpler back then. Albeit up till May 1996, when my dear brother was born!
Anyway, I won’t dwell on the simplicities of childhood. We’re all too fimiliar with them. I wonder if kids who post on this blog today think they’re life is simple…I would think not. They’d probably say that their life is just as complex if not more, than mine! Focusing on today, I woke up on a “working” day at 11:30 in the morning. This is probably horrifying for most who work, but I’m in postgraduate study and am fortunate enough not to have any lectures today. Having spent the last week completing a number of essays and funding grants, it’s fair to say that I’ve been catching up on some much needed sleep.
Usually, I’d wake up with a number of pings on my phone indicating a steady stream of emails that need attending to…but oddly none today. Before heading for the computer and resuming my multilevel stats assignment from the previous night, I took the time to make a proper lunch that wasn’t a sausage roll with £1 caffeine top up. Then the usual social networking checks, and off to work! It would have been nice to report that the assignment was done and dusted, but that’s wishful thinking in my case. Can I class myself an adrenaline junkie for leaving things to the last minute and then submitting them? A question that I’m sure will amuse me for years.
The real essence of today began with a phone call this evening from a dear friend in Glasgow. In some ways, it was a catalyst to a number of socially entrenched interactions. I caught up with a bunch of friends in college and complained about the numerous grants that still need to be written, the inexplicable exhaustion and stress my supervisor causes and the pending essay asking me to comment on social influences that foster children’s undestanding of mind. The ephemeral feeling of complaining, elliciting support and understanding from friends is just marvellous!
From there headed off to start the much needed reading for the aforementioned essay. Relying on computers to pull jounral papers is just a doorway to distraction. No sooner did I start the google searches did my email start going off. The one to highlight was from a supervisor in Glasgow. He is truly responsible for promoting my potential career in academia, and nothing made me happier than him saying it would be nice to have be back in Glasgow. The second time this week, someone in Glasgow missed me. The first time was from another friend who missed me when chosing ice-cream…that probably says more about me than her! Either way, hopefully doors will be opened to Glasgow and my current institution. Choosing between the two, if I’m lucky enough to get the choice, will be difficult!
I suppose my thought for today is about understanding. I said earlier that looking back to primary school days, things seemed simpler. Perhaps it was because the way I understood my friends, teachers and family was simpler. Having grown up somewhat, perhaps my understanding of the various relationships is more complex. I have a feeling that I’ll remember this 29th Feb for a long time as in many ways, the fuss that my teacher made about the 29th Feb 1996 seems more pertinent now than it ever has.

Taking time away from other things to say “Hello”

February 29th, eh?

Hm… Nothing special about today for me. It was a normal enough day. That’s kind of nice, though. Plus, it was the start of a short week at work! (I had Monday and yesterday off, so I was refreshed going back to work today :D ).

Other than that? Nah, nothing. In saying that, as soon as I’ve this finished, I’ve a mind to do some writing in a novel I’m trying to finish. I’m only on the first draft, but it’s taking forever!

There are many things I could rant about, could discuss, whatever. But I won’t. Instead, I’ll just say: Live life. Enjoy every experience. Store everything you hear, see and feel away somewhere. You never know when it might come in useful.

Peace out!
^_^

Student Life

Today was the day that I propsed to my boyfriend!……………..haha just kidding, I don’t even have a boyfriend.

I am a media student studying for an MA in TV an Radio production, so being a student, my day was pretty boring and average. One thing that crosses my mind most days, including today, is the fact that my generation’s future is very uncertain.

It is scary to think that even after studying for four years to obtain a degree, at the end of the day it is worth nothing if there are no jobs. It is even scarier for media students because media is one of the hardest industries to get in to even at the best of economic times.

But people don’t realise that the world probably wouldn’t even be able to function if the media didn’t exist. Media students are vital to the industry but we are faced with an uncertain and instable future. I am the type of person who likes to know what I will be doing but when I think ahead to this day in five years time, I couldn’t even give a guess of what I will be doing.

I have settled with the fact that I could be spending a lot of time unemployed or in a job that I don’t love, but eventually I hope, it will be worth it and I will end up where I want to be.

That crossed my mind today…and that was probably as exciting as my day got.

Technology I Use In 2012

I’m currently In my ICT class on a Apple Mac Computer. Mac’s are trash, they’re overpriced for the same specs and only fanboys use them (like my teacher :D ), I prefer Windows.

At home I have quite a lot of technology, I have a Fujitsu Laptop, a HP Computer, a 9300 blackberry curve, an Xbox 360 with amazing games such as Dead Space 2, Gears Of War 3, Halo Reach, Fifa 12, Call of Duty Black Ops – (Modern Warfare 3 Is Awful). I have a TV with freeview and Dr Dre Beat Headphones. Love to use the internet to play games, watch videos on Youtube and socialise on Facebook.

Continuous Challenges

So, the never-come summer’s gone. Literally, Sydneysiders didn’t have summer this year, even the once-every-four-year last day of February is raining. Today is also full of challenges – new challenges, and continuous challenges. I don’t like it, but I like it, at least it means you still got something to do in your life.

Knowledge given freely

So today is the 29th of February and I woke up not knowing what I was going to write here. All I knew was that I wanted to be a part of something that may well be remembered for many years to come. One day I want to be able to say to my children that I was able to be a part of this event.
With that in mind I feel like I need to say something poignant which strikes deeply into the hearts of those that read this. For what else can a person do but impart the knowledge of their experiences to others so that they might become not only better people but also wiser in the knowledge that we all have something to give the world. So here I go….don’t eat yellow snow.

School, lack of food and maps!

Today I was at school and only had 1 free period. I didn’t eat much as I gave up junk food for lent so nothing is appetising anymore but this made me really dizzy in the afternoon. When I got home I sorted out the route maps for my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and am still doing it now…5 hours later…I also cheered up my best friend who broke up with her boyfriend today. So today was a stressful day but I am glad that I could cheer her up. That and the route maps mean that I have been productive! :)

Music, love & peace

Currently new to blogging but why not leave a mark on the internet…
Currently undertaking a teaching degree as my current unit is about ICT so leads me to this post.
20 year old girl living in one of the best cities Melbourne :) well just outside actually on the beach :)
MUSIC- can determine a mood, bring back a memory, give us all something we can relate to, inspire us. A world without music is an empty place without the background noise :)
LOVE- my nieces (true love) family, friends, lovers . But at the end of the day it’s what we all want, it’s also impossible to live without.
PEACE- we all need one peaceful place where in that moment, doing that one thing we are completely at peace. If everyone could find their own piece of peace we would have less war.

Corporate Cyber Harassment

National Centre for Cyberstalking Research UK based at the University of Bedfordshire is undertaking a study in Corporate Cyberharassment. As literature suggest, with the increasing number of cyberstalking cases, it is commonly known that cyberharassment and stalking problems are predominantly associated with school-age children and individuals. However, more and more people are engaging in cyberharassment behaviours against organisations and businesses. In some instances, people consider such cyberharassment merely a casual annoyance, particularly when stemming from a critique or difference of opinion. However, in other situations, people and companies are targets of intentional malicious attacks, and the impacts from these attacks on individuals and businesses are real and significant , and reflect more malevolent motives.
The impact of such cyber attacks on the companies in some cases can cause highly negative effects. These can include:
1. Time and costs involved in minimising damage.
2. Negative impact on the reputation.
3. Financial loss.
4. Prevention from conducting business.
5. Going out of business.
6. Psychological discomfort.
The research is aiming to further investigate how prevalent is Corporate Cyberharassment, how can we ensure attribution and how can such behaviour be prevented.
Thank you in advance for your comments. We value your opinion regarding all cyberstalking issues!

Time flies.

Looking back over the past 4 years and how things have changed in my life, in the world around me and what we have all achieved as one, I am amazed how quickly time passes but above all what we can achieve in that time.
Personally, during the last leap year I was embarking on my first year at university training to be a teacher, far away from home and not sure I was doing the right thing. This leap year I spent the day teaching my very own class in what can only be described as my dream school and dream job. I’m glad I stuck with the course, I’m glad I continued through the hard times and I’m incredibly excited to see what the next four years will bring. Will I still be in the same school? Will I have moved away from the county I currently live in? Children? Marriage? Who knows! All I know is that the next four years will be a journey of ups and downs, as life is a roller-coaster, but I am going to try and enjoy the ride.

My life

Today has been like every other day, I look after my two beautiful children Gordon and Elsie. Kept busy with housework, waited for my boyfriend to get back from work and then finished my uni assignment. This is pretty much how every single day is for me. To you it probably sounds boring, but to me I get to listen to music, play with my children and be with the people I love. I have prepared a little list of my leap year for you to not enjoy:

Best thing I have eaten: roast chicken
Best TV show on today: Balamory
Best drink: Tea
Best moment: Boyfriend coming home
Would have been better: If I won the lottery

Hope everyone enjoyed their leap too x x x

An extra days work!

Today I had an extra days work! As a supply teacher this is readily accepted and I spent a lovely day in Reception and Nursery. Although I am now cream crackered I thouroughly enjoyed it! We spent the day writing in the Smurf tent, making owl puppets and owl biscuits!
I came home and me and Liam had fish, rice and salad for tea – diet still seems to be going reasonably well! Zumba tomorrow to make it better!
Really happy that mom found her earring :) ! Dad has finally got the facebook bug! Jo has had a masterclass off a Masterchef winner and Sam and Toby have chilled all day! The life of pets!
That is what all of my family have been up to today, hope you have all enjoyed your extra day too!
PS…Shall I buy that lush dress for graduation??
See you all, Nicki :)

Fleeing University

Today I woke up to my mom phoning me, telling me she was outside my uni flat because i’d rang her in tears the night before. She’d driven over 100 miles overnight to take me home. I loaded everything i could into the car, I handed in my quitting forms, and i went. I told one person, another flatmate said bye. Everyone else ignored me, but i don’t care, i’d got away and as i saw town on the horizon. I cried. Not because i was sad, but because i was relieved. So, so relieved to be home.

The meeting was relatively standard, punctuated mid way through with an intense bout of uncontollable giggling from me and the girl sat next to me. The weather in Newcastle Upon Tyne has been unusually warm today, like summer, so it’s been torture being sat in the library doin uni work! Univeristy work is annoying but i know that by next leap year i’ll be looking at university life woth rose tinted glasses, so I should probably appreciate it! The sun is setting so I’ve missed the sunshine today which is sad! I’m going to go home make dinner and maybe watch a ‘La Vien Rose’. Someone has just sent me a text which made me smile so I guess my leap year day hasn’t been all bad after all! :)

Class Asssignment

Today in class we were assigned to blog about anything we wanted, but as time goes on, watching everyone working hard on their own I couldn’t think of anything. In this moment I’m sitting down in class only hoping time would go faster for this long day to be over so I can go home to rest. Hopefully everyone else is having as much fun with this as I am. Happy leap year!

Watching the six o’ clock news is valuable, however when the news is over and yo continue to watch Jersey Shore, Teen Mom and three more hours of crap television one cannot say that that isn’t a problem. The next time you sit down to watch any of these crap shows, instead go take your dog for a walk, or take a nap, or do anything except watch stupid tv.

Almost at the end…

Well, today is a special day that comes only once in four years…:-) These days, because of our busy life, this extra day is going almost unnoticeable and with no special recognition than any other day of the year…
Unlike most of the people, I am really happy for celebrating this day in this way… I am really new to Blogging… and now, with this event, I feel like I am finally making my place in this vast Blogging family…! :-)

I thank all my followers, visitors, and others for making my blog a grand success… :-D

Lastly,
A boy has 6fingers on his right hand and his friends call him Arya… why??

Guess!!

Hey, don’t think like a scientist… His name is Arya…! :-) :-D

Yes… Keep laughing…. Share what all you can… Have a great time around… Sleep well… Have good hope for the future… Take care and Thank You…! :-)

The world cup day for all humans Perhaps !!

So today i woke up and i knew that this day is one which wont come next year and even the year after that . it will just come after 4 years , something like a world cup for normal people.
You need to make this day big , which i couldnt , but i vow to make my next leap day big one for sure .
Till then i have to achieve 5 things
1. Be fit and fine
2.Have a good job
3.Have a nice car
4.Have a mini library
5.And watch a world cup game !!

Strange day

Today is a strange day. I have to take my car to the garage as I am trading it in. It may not sound that bad, but, my dad passed away 4 years ago and he bought it for me as my first car. So I think I will find it hard handing over the car. I still have my memories and I will probably be a bit emotional. It is strange how we all becoming attached to items which are personal to us.

Been on the radio

I’m at work today – how boring! But, at about 12:30 I was on BETT Radio talking about a Teach Meet I went to – that made the day a little more exciting!

In half an hour I have to go to an English Audit – hope I pass as I need it to be a teacher!

February 29th has been memorable for me!

Something to think about…

Currently chilling with Itunes playing ‘Echoes of Gerudo Valley’. It’s Music from the Legend of Zelda series played on Ocarina, and it’s fantastic. Well worth a listen for any sort of music or Legend of Zelda fan. :)

reminds me, I should probably see about getting more Zelda games, esp. Majora’s Mask. That one has been my favorite (although Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time are also quite good :) )
Maybe I should pick up an Ocarina and start learning how to play it… :)

Oh, and happy Leap year day :)

A WHOLE extra day….

Today, on the extra day of the year, I will be going to the cinema and treating my boyfriend to a Pizza Express in Plymouth. Then, weather permitting, a walk along Plymouth hoe. After that I will be coming back home to reality and will be getting on with a presentation for my music module on the BEd course I am on. So much to do to become a teacher!!

Hip hip hooray

The biggest thing I’ll be doing, is celebrating my birthday, the first one I’ve had for FOUR years. I turn 20 on Leap Day but it’s only my fifth birthday. I’m a college student, so I’ll have classes as usual, that won’t change. In the evening however, I’m going out with friends for pizza and to celebrate my birthday, and I’ll make the most of doing so, because then it’s a four year wait for my next birthday. Happy Leap Day, and a BIG Happy Birthday to any fellow Leap Day Babies out there, lets enjoy it while we can!

The bright moon is rising above the land of black and green

The Ordinary Man, The workers are being used again and they never came home, my days have been filled with the music of Christy Moore!

Doing my BA Thesis of the ‘Greatest Irish Musician of our times’ (as some say!) my day has been consumed by music- not a bad complaint to have I guess!
From Lisdoonvara to the Hills of Dooneen, today I took a musical voyage on my little honda 50 with Chirsty Moore as my guide! (see what I did there!)

Ah this thesis! I think my progress is slow and an extra day this month wont go a miss! I wonder if, when my submission deadline just a few short weeks away now draws closer will i be thankful how I spent today or secretly wishing every month had an extra day!

I have to say, today the Shane Mc Gowan/Christy Moore collaboration ‘Aisling’ has been seriously overplayed by myself. I think I have notions above myself that perhaps that song is about me?!…my black hair darling…my Aisling?! Yes delusion…and they say that is the first sign of madness…I think I’m cracking up!!

So my Feb 29th has been spent travelling i think is best to say! (literally and metaphorically!) Kildare to Galway- 1 hour 42 minutes and Lisdoonvarna to Knock in about 3.5 minutes! (iPods are great!)

Researching, writing and living in fantasy land….All in a days work!

To the next generation….

I’m writing this in my lounge chair in my warm student room.
However, I wish I was writing this in a grimy cafe in St Paul’s, London. A very sad event occurred last night. In the early hours of this morning people who stood up against corporate greed and morally corrupt politicians were booted out of the humble tents outside St. Paul’s cathedral. Children who read this now may look back on this day in 20 years and see this is as the end of democracy. Good luck to everyone.
