Letter to clipper teas
Yesterday in class we wrote a letter to clipper teas to find out whether or not their tea is fairtrade because we are learning about fairtrade. We are hoping they will write back to tell us if it is or not and put the fairtrade symbol on it!!
We found out that fairtrade means both NO child labour and farmers get paid a fair price. At the moment we are only getting fairtrade tea and coffee for our staff-room and when we saw the quality of clipper tea we wandered whether it is fairtrade so we wrote a letter to clipper teas to ask them whether it is but they haven’t written back yet. And if clipper’s tea is fairtrade they haven’t put the fair-trade logo on the packaging.

Unfortunuately we don’t seem to have received the letter from your class yet but I can answer some of your questions now.
Clipper were founded in 1984 and were the first Fairtrade tea company in the UK. You’ll be pleased to hear that all of our Fairtrade teas already carry the Fairtrade Mark and we work very closely with the Fairtrade Foundation. Not all of our teas are Fair-trade Certified as some of them are Organic and carry the Soil Association Mark, some of our teas actually carry both certifications depending on where the tea is bought from. All our teas are ethically sourced though and we only ever work with producers who are striving to improve the standards of welfare for their workers and their families.
