I am in my 14th year of teaching. Since beginning my career I have taught in four different schools, seven different grade levels, and two different contents. I am currently teaching Family and Consumer Sciences and twelfth grade English. I’m not sure if I got into education for the same reasons, but today, Februaray 29, 2012 I have 29 reasons for teaching. Here they are:
1. The kids
2. The content
3. Because I truly love the kids
4. Because I truly love the content
5. Because I whole-heartedly believe that I can be a positive influence in someone’s life
6. Because I may be the only person to say “hello” or “how’s your day going?”
7. Because I may have different expectations than the students’ parents therefore exposing them to different views
8. Because I believe that what I teach is sometimes not as important as how I teach it
9. Because I value education
10. Because I want to show my own two children how much I value education
11. Because I do enjoy summertime:)
12. Because I like connecting with students and learning more about them every day
13. Because I know I can’t change the world, but I may be able to change a person
14. Because I think every student should love literature, writing, and baking as much as me
15. Because my students make me laugh every day
16. Because my students make me cry more than I wish
17. Because my family is a family of teachers
18. Because it’s a necessary profession
19. Because it’s what I feel I was made to do
20. Because I’ve considered doing other things but always come back to teaching
21. Because I see how much I’ve grown as a teacher in the past 14 years and am willing to keep growing
22. Because I didn’t want to a child psychologist afterall
23. Because can give rewards and fun prizes
24. Because I get rewarded every day by they’re smiles and charm
25. Because I don’t mind smelling like fried food at the end of the day
26. Because I fell in love with Scout and Jem
27. Because I get to watch kids grow into young adults
28. Because I love the content
29. Because I love the kids.
